Violence in Zihuatanejo: three women are shot, one died; Gas stations close due to extortion


In Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, the violence does not stop. Gas distributors suspended sales due to extortion and three women were shot at; one of them died.

Since Saturday, February 4, the owners of Gas Express Nieto, Gas Mundial and Gas Global have received extortion calls and collection of fees, reported the newspaper El Sur.

This Tuesday, only one of the companies resumed sales, but not the distribution in vans, which has generated concern among businessmen and merchants in the city.

Francisco Rodríguez Cisneros, director of the Interior of the Government Secretariat, pointed out that the state Public Security Secretariat, in coordination with the Army and the National Guard, “will resume operations to generate conditions of stability.”

Last year tortilla shops closed because delinquents demanded the payment of quota; later carriers stopped providing service for the same reason, and later hardware store owners were also extorted, reported Amapola Periodismo.

In September of last year, members of the Navy assumed control of security in the municipality of Zihuatanejo.

Armed attack on women in the center

On the afternoon of this Tuesday, February 7, in the center of Zihuatanejo, three women were shot at by a man who fled on a motorcycle.

The armed attack occurred near the Milano and AT&T stores. The State Attorney General’s Office was the instance in charge of doing the cabinet and field work.

Due to the attack, María ‘N’ died in the hospital, while Adilene ‘N’ and Maritza ‘N’ were injured and remain hospitalized, reported the State Attorney General’s Office.

The attack took place on Vicente Guerrero street, almost in front of the facilities of the Common Jurisdiction Public Ministry. Four 9-mm casings were found at the scene.

In 2022, Guerrero registered 1,360 intentional homicides and 13 femicides, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

In recent days, violence against women has risen, between Sunday and Monday three women were beaten to death and their bodies thrown onto public roads in different events in Acapulco.

Zihuatanejo and Acapulco are among the eight municipalities of Guerrero that have a Gender Violence Alert for femicide violence, since 2017; However, according to feminist groups, to date the state authorities have not complied with the recommendations issued by the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence against Women ( Conavim )
