A group of residents of the communities of Los Arenales and Hacienda de Cabañas, in the municipality of San Jerónimo, blocked the federal highway Acapulco-Zihuatanejo, near the town of Santa Rosa, as a pressure measure to demand government support after the damage caused by tropical storm “John.”
The blockade, which lasted approximately one hour, intermittently interrupted vehicular traffic in both lanes, causing congestion and delays in traffic. The protesters demanded medical supplies, drinking water and the installation of community kitchens, due to the critical situation in which they find themselves after the passage of the meteorological phenomenon.
They pointed out that the rains and strong winds left serious damage in their communities, affecting homes, roads and basic services. Given the lack of a timely response from the authorities, they decided to take this action as a last measure to make themselves heard.
After the demonstration, representatives of the state government arrived at the site to talk with the residents and address their demands. After reaching preliminary agreements, the protesters agreed to remove the blockade and clear the road, allowing vehicular traffic to resume.
