Violent weekend in Guerrero leaves 9 dead; former director of Zihuatanejo’s Municipal Public Service is murdered

The weekend violence—Saturday and Sunday—left nine people dead in Guerrero.

The latest incident occurred in Zihuatanejo on the Costa Grande. Around 8:00 a.m., the former director of the Zihuatanejo Municipal Public Service, David Luna Bravo, was shot in the La Noria neighborhood.

Luna Bravo was an official during the six-year administration of PRI member Jorge Sánchez Allec, who handed over the mayoralty to his wife Lizette Tapia Castro in 2024.

Four hours earlier, he was shot and killed in downtown Iguala.

In other incidents, an authorities report indicated that around 4:00 a.m. this Sunday, armed men shot and killed a man in his 30s.

Meanwhile, around 2:30 a.m., two men were killed outside the Euforia bar, located on the Costera Miguel Alemán in Acapulco.

The police report indicates that an armed group attacked the two men while they were on the sidewalk outside the bar. One remained outside the bar and the other a few meters away.

The report indicates that forensics from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) found approximately 13 spent shell casings at the scene.

In a separate incident, early Sunday, in the Industrial City of Iguala, the body of a woman was found. She was blindfolded and showed signs of gunshot wounds.

About 20 minutes before the end of Saturday, a man was murdered in the community of Panela, Zihuatanejo.

The report indicates that the murder occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, when the man was inside a Tornada-type pickup truck.

Forensics found bullet holes in the windshield of the vehicle, as well as the man’s body.

On Saturday, around 2 p.m., near the central market in Iguala, a man named Adrían Castrejón was shot seven times.
