Five boats sank in Las Salinas Lagoon in this municipality after the sudden rip currents that emerged Wednesday afternoon, a result of the tsunami warning issued following the earthquake in Russia.
About 60 people, including fishermen and Civil Protection workers, used several ropes to pull the boats out of the water, which were severely damaged.
According to internationally recognized rescuer Ángel Lara, at 5:00 p.m., there was a rise and fall of the tide, which created a bottleneck for several boats, generated a strong current, and the boats ended up sinking.
