During the first weekend of March, the destinations that make up the “Home of the Sun” (Acapulco) reached a hotel occupancy rate of 58.7 percent. According to the Acapulco Tourism Secretariat, occupancy reached 60.1 percent across its three zones: Golden Zone (76.3 percent), Traditional Zone (61.3 percent), and Diamond Zone (35.8 percent).
The beaches of the Golden Zone were packed from early morning with dozens of tourists who arrived on tours to Papagayo Beach, where bathers enjoyed the ocean waves and the warm weather.
In the report, Ixtapa registered the highest percentage of occupied rooms at 63.7 percent, while the “Pueblo Mágico” (Magical Town) of Zihuatanejo recorded 47.7 percent.
The silver-mining city of Taxco reached an occupancy rate of 25.8 percent. Meanwhile, the tourist destination of La Unión, with its areas of La Saladita, Troncones, and Majahua, registered a 62.3 percent occupancy rate.
In timeshares, Acapulco reached a 78.8 percent occupancy rate, and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo 45.7 percent.
