With the goal of strengthening the agave-mezcal production chain and promoting this emblematic beverage of Guerrero, Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda announced the 2026 Guerrero Mezcal Festival, which will be held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Tianguis Turístico de México (Mexico Tourism Fair) in Acapulco.
The governor reported that nearly 10 million pesos have been allocated to strengthen the agave-mezcal chain, which has allowed more than one hundred producers to be added to the registry of Guerrero companies, as well as promoting the registration, development, and launch of new brands.
This support includes technical assistance, training, brand development, bottle selection, label design, and foreign trade training, all aimed at improving the competitiveness of Guerrero mezcal.
Currently, state production exceeds 94,300 liters from the Central, Northern, Mountain, Tierra Caliente, and Sierra regions, an activity that directly benefits more than 500 families.
The Secretary of Economic Development, Teodora Ramírez Vega, indicated that Guerrero is one of the nine states that comprise the mezcal designation of origin, and thanks to the state certification program promoted by the state government, the state ranks fifth nationally in the production of this spirit.
According to the Secretary, with state support, more than 40 certified brands have been developed, seven of which are already ready for export.
The “Guerrero Tastes Like Mezcal” festival will take place from April 28 to 30 at the Fórum Mundo Imperial venue, as part of the Tianguis Turístico 2026 activities.
The event will offer tastings, cocktails, and an artisan and gastronomic showcase, with the participation of more than 20 certified mezcal brands, in a space called “Guerrero Experience,” where attendees can enjoy the pairing of this traditional spirit with the state’s rich culinary offerings.
