Teachers from the Guerrero State Coordinator of Education Workers (CETEG)—specifically from the Costa Grande region—blocked Morelos Avenue for two hours, halting traffic heading toward the city center.
Between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., more than 200 educators gathered outside the Bahía de Zihuatanejo Trust (Fibazi) offices before moving to Morelos Avenue, where they intermittently blocked the flow of traffic.
Martín Maldonado, one of the protesting teachers, stated that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is criminalizing the teaching profession through her morning press conferences.
The teacher emphasized that CETEG’s struggle is for labor rights and noted that the movement is not backed by any political party.
So far, approximately 650 teachers from Zihuatanejo, Petatlán, and La Unión are participating in the protests, resulting in more than 10,000 students missing classes.
