Tourism authorities in Guerrero estimate that Acapulco will reach up to 90 percent hotel occupancy during the peak days of the summer holidays, which began this Thursday and will conclude on August 30.
Statewide, the arrival of 1,575,000 visitors is expected, generating an economic impact of over 13 billion pesos and an average hotel occupancy rate of 65 percent.
Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda led the launch of the Summer 2026 holiday operation in Zihuatanejo, where the Ministry of Tourism presented the “Something New Under the Sun” campaign, which aims to promote the state’s tourist destinations.
Salgado reported that the operation includes the deployment of 14,500 personnel from various agencies to provide security and assistance to tourists and residents during the season.
The state Secretary of Tourism, Simón Quiñones Orozco, indicated that Acapulco expects to receive more than 962,000 visitors, register an average occupancy rate of 63.3 percent, and generate an economic impact of 7.893 billion pesos.
He specified that the port currently has 17,555 rooms distributed among 313 hotels, and highlighted that Cofepris (Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks) confirmed that Guerrero’s beaches are suitable for recreational use.
For Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, the arrival of 404,000 tourists is projected, with an average occupancy rate of 72.1 percent and an economic impact exceeding 4 billion pesos.
Taxco is estimated to receive 124,000 visitors, with an occupancy rate of 34.5 percent and an economic impact of 667 million pesos, while La Unión expects 44,000 tourists, an occupancy rate of 62.6 percent, and an economic impact exceeding 614 million pesos.
For the first time, the destinations of Copala and Marquelia, on the Costa Chica, will be included in tourism promotion and official sector statistics. Together, they expect to receive more than 39,000 visitors and generate over 157 million pesos in revenue.
In Acapulco, authorities from all three levels of government also launched the security operation, which includes surveillance of beaches, highways, shopping centers, and areas with high concentrations of tourists.
The deployment will consist of 358 personnel, 81 patrol cars, 23 motorcycles, eight ATVs, four ambulances, and three canine units, and will remain in effect until August 30.
