The Second Government Report of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has special significance for Acapulco and Guerrero. Beyond the figures, the document shows a reality that we can confirm today: the Government of Mexico continues to make significant investments to recover, rebuild, and modernize our state, with projects that address fundamental needs and lay the foundations for a better future.
In Guerrero, federal investments are being made in hydraulic infrastructure, land transportation, health, education, housing, and the recovery of tourism services and spaces. Many of these actions respond to needs caused by weather phenomena that severely affected our state.
For Acapulco, the main port and tourist center of Guerrero, this transformation has a clear name and path: “Acapulco Transforms With You.” The program is a comprehensive strategy to promote the economic, social, urban, and tourism recovery of Acapulco and Coyuca de Benítez, municipalities affected by Hurricanes Otis and John.
One of the greatest challenges after these phenomena was recovering the water infrastructure. The damage limited the ability to guarantee the supply of drinking water. Faced with this situation, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the definitive cancellation of the La Parota Dam project, and alternatives were undertaken to ensure that Acapulco has sufficient, high-quality water.
The Second Government Report details completed projects as well as others that will continue throughout this year. These include the construction of three radial wells along the banks of the Papagayo River and the rehabilitation of Aqueducts 1 and 2; the elevation of pumping equipment to protect it from flooding; as well as the replacement, modernization, and sectorization of the drinking water distribution network.
It also includes improvements to the drinking water service in Pie de la Cuesta and the reconstruction of water supply systems in rural communities. A total of 2.804 billion pesos is allocated to these actions. In addition, rivers and bodies of water are being cleaned up to restore beaches, lagoons, and wetlands, as well as to prevent flooding, benefiting nearly 800,000 residents of Acapulco.
The transformation can also be seen in mobility. The Marina Bus, operated by the Navy Secretariat, is already a reality and establishes a maritime route between downtown Acapulco and Puerto Marqués. It is an option for domestic and foreign tourists, but also for people from Acapulco, since its differentiated fare makes it a real transportation alternative. Safety, mobility, and good service are part of a transformation that can be felt in everyday life.
There have also been significant advances in healthcare. The new High-Specialty Regional Hospital in Acapulco was inaugurated, the Geriatric Clinic operated by ISSSTE was expanded and remodeled, and Regional Hospital 1 Vicente Guerrero was rehabilitated. These projects mean more and better services for Guerrero families.
In education, the expansion of two new upper-secondary schools continues, and four more are being built this year. Added to this are the Technological High School in Acapulco and a campus of the Rosario Castellanos National University. Investment in infrastructure, together with the scholarships provided at all three educational levels, strengthens the education of our young people and expands their opportunities.
The Second Government Report confirms that Acapulco is not alone. Federal investment supports its recovery and creates the conditions for it to once again become one of Mexico’s major tourist destinations, with better services, infrastructure, and opportunities for its population.
Guerrero, and particularly Acapulco, thanks and supports our President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. Every peso invested in the main tourist destination of our state has an impact that goes beyond the port: it benefits families, strengthens the regional economy, and opens new possibilities for Guerrero.
The transformation of our state is a fact. In Acapulco, after difficult times, recovery is becoming projects, services, and opportunities. That is the path we must continue: working together to consolidate the transformation and make Acapulco a more modern, safe, dignified city with better conditions for everyone.
