Rambo II: The Mission, First Blood Part II, was shot on location in Mexico. We tell you the details.
The El Salto Waterfall, in Coyuca de Benítez, Pie de la Cuesta, in Acapulco, and Tecoanapa, all in the state of Guerrero, were scenes at different times in the plot of Rambo II, did you know?
The plot of the movie Rambo II: the mission
Rambo: First Blood Part II was released on May 24, 1985. In this second installment of the action film series, it takes place when Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) is released from prison thanks to a federal order and accepts the mission of going to Vietnam in search of American prisoners of war.
Although now the production of the film seems quite old to us, at the time this film was nominated for the best special effects at the 1986 Oscars.
It was also the second highest grossing film of that year, but it swept the 1986 Razzie Awards by winning 7 awards: Worst Director, Actor, Movie, Screenplay, Cinematography, Supporting Actress, and New Star.
Let’s say that the popularity of the public was inversely proportional to the appreciation of the movie-going critics of those years.
Movie sets in Guerrero
In this film there are shots on Acapulco beaches. Also in the El Salto Waterfall, which is located in the highlands of the mountains in the municipality of Coyuca de Benítez. This place is even known by locals as the Rambo II Waterfall. Have you taken a bath in its waters?
In those years this place was almost hidden and was semi-virgin, which helped the production to develop smoothly.
All scenes at the military base were filmed at the Guerrero Mexican Air Force airstrip. National insignia were hidden and air force members became extras in the film.
