For more than five hours, parents and teachers from the Technical Industrial Secondary School 75 ‘Valerio Trujano’, located in the community of El Naranjito, belonging to the municipality of La Unión de Isidro Montes de Oca, Guerrero, blocked the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway.

“We are on strike, and today we are blocking because the teachers do not want to be paid their hours of debt, there are cases where some are owed up to 14 years at the Technical Industrial Secondary School 75 ‘Valerio Trujano’,” complained one of the parents.

The demonstration began at 08:30 hours and ended at 13:00 hours; the parents accused that the students of the three grades have gone three weeks without classes at the secondary school.

The protesters intermittently closed both directions of the federal highway; every 30 minutes they were released for vehicular traffic.

With tires, stones and cardboard, the group of parents and teachers expressed their dissatisfaction, calling for “total support for the work stoppage” and “permanent appointments.”

Regarding the school, they complained that the electrical grid is in poor condition, as are the sports fields; the roof was not repaired and was not maintained by the Guerrero Institute of Physical Educational Infrastructure (IGIFE).

Dozens of cargo vehicles were stranded, however, the teachers and parents were bitter when they pointed out that they are willing to maintain the blockade as long as necessary, until they achieve a favorable response to their various proposals.
