Gerardo Zúñiga, the state coordinator of the “Carlos Manzo” Support Network in Baja California Sur, led a meeting to organize the installation of “Las Mesitas del Sombrero” (The Hat Tables) in the Los Cabos tourist destination.

During the meeting with the support group in this municipality, the launch of the first Citizen Service Table in Cabo San Lucas was agreed upon. This initiative will listen to and assist the most vulnerable people in order to build real solutions in Los Cabos.

The most important tourist destination in Baja California Sur has large belts of poverty, with neighborhoods experiencing high levels of marginalization and poverty, which are not adequately served by municipal, state, and federal authorities.

Some neighborhoods located on the outskirts of the city lack even basic services such as water, drainage, and electricity.

The leader of the “Carlos Manzo” Support Network believes this movement should address, to the best of its ability, this serious problem of social backwardness caused by the arrival of people from other states seeking better opportunities, lack of employment, uncontrolled growth due to the absence of an urban plan and irregular settlements, and corruption stemming from mismanagement of public resources.

The residents of Cabo San Lucas themselves requested that Gerardo Zúñiga bring “Las Mesitas del Sombrero” to Los Cabos, because they described “the abandonment by the municipal, state, and federal governments.”

The leader of the “Carlos Manzo” Support Network of Baja California Sur reminded everyone that this space, designed to listen directly to people and address their most pressing needs, offers the following services FREE OF CHARGE:

-Medical consultations and medication distribution.

-Legal advice on administrative, criminal, and agrarian matters.

-Haircuts, clothing, and footwear distribution.

Psychological counseling for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing abuse or domestic violence.

Finally, the leader stated that “the residents of Los Cabos are not alone,” and that “they now have a team of professionals,” including lawyers, doctors, and psychologists.
