The Linda beach pier will be completely demolished this year to make way for the construction of a new structure, after structural damage was found that poses a risk.
However, it will be the maritime authorities and municipal Civil Protection officials who will determine whether the current pier can be used during the upcoming Easter holiday period.
Mayor Lizette Tapia Castro reported that the project already has a budget approved by the state government, as well as the necessary technical studies to carry it out, emphasizing that it is a priority project for the municipal administration.
She explained that the project involves the complete removal of the current pier and the construction of a completely new one, as it is not a simple remodeling.
She specified that the studies include current analyses, bathymetric surveys, and a technical project prepared by the General Directorate of Ports, under the Secretariat of the Navy, which was presented to and approved by the state government.
Regarding the Easter holiday period, Tapia Castro indicated that there is an alternative plan in place and that the decision regarding the use of the pier will depend on factors such as wave conditions, ocean currents, and the assessment conducted by the Port Authority, the body with the power to authorize or restrict its operation.
If its use is permitted, special protocols will be implemented, including limiting the number of people allowed to pass through in small groups to minimize risks.
