During these summer vacations, Taxco offers tourists who love adventure and nature the opportunity to explore attractions such as natural pools, caves, museums, and local cuisine.
Felipe Luna Juárez, the municipality’s director of tourism promotion, emphasized that this Magical Town offers much more than the traditional visit to the Church of Santa Prisca and its famous silver craftsmanship. Travelers can also discover other recreational alternatives in nearby communities with a strong tourism vocation.
Among the attractions is the Parish of San Sebastián, as well as the monumental Christ statue, where visitors can take panoramic photographs of the entire city of Taxco.
There is also a cable car, which allows visitors to enjoy the experience from above and capture spectacular views of the Magical Town.
Luna Juárez explained that Taxco also has museums and a pre-Hispanic mine, which are excellent options for visitors interested in history and culture. One of the tourism-oriented communities belonging to Taxco is Atzala, where visitors can explore, swim, and jump into its eight blue natural pools.
About an hour away is the Grutas de Cacahuamilpa National Park, located on the border between the municipalities of Taxco and Pilcaya, in the northern region of Guerrero.
There is also the Chonta River, whose original name is Chontalcoatlán. It is an underground cave system that offers a four- to five-hour tour.
The municipal official explained that these activities are more specialized and are aimed at lovers of extreme sports. Visitors can climb, hike, and swim along the underground river.
“The Chonta River consists of underground caves that offer a four- to five-hour tour. It is located about an hour from Taxco and is a more specialized activity, involving underground river exploration and climbing with a somewhat higher level of difficulty, but there are good guides,” he said.
In the same area, in the community of Texcaltitla, which belongs to Taxco de Alarcón, visitors can find the Las Granadas de Mil Cascadas Ecopark. There, tourists can explore 150 meters of underground river, cenote-style pools, and exciting natural jumps.
Taxco also has a recreational park on Cerro del Huasteco, where visitors can rent bicycles and enjoy mountain biking.
Another attraction is the community of Juliantla, the hometown of the late singer Joan Sebastian, where visitors can experience traditional jaripeo events and enjoy Taxco’s traditional cuisine.
During the summer vacation period, Felipe Luna said that Taxco receives both national and international tourists, who typically stay for two nights.
“Sixty percent of the tourists arriving in Taxco during these summer vacations are domestic visitors, while 40 percent are foreigners, mainly from Europe and Latin America,” he explained.
