In 2024, according to the latest records, the states with the highest percentage of children and adolescents experiencing food insecurity were Tabasco, Guerrero, and Oaxaca; more than one in four people aged 0 to 17 in these states lacked access to nutritious, quality food.
This was reported by the Network for Children’s Rights in Mexico (Redim), which indicates that these three states have had the highest percentages of children and adolescents lacking access to nutritious and quality food since 2016.
Furthermore, the incidence of this lack of access continued to be unevenly distributed among children and adolescents in the different states of the republic: in 2024, the state with the highest percentage of people aged 0 to 17 lacking access to nutritious and quality food (Tabasco, 35.3 percent) showed a difference of 26.6 percentage points compared to the state with the lowest percentage (Baja California, 8.7 percent).
On the other hand, the states with the highest numbers of people aged 0 to 17 in this situation during 2024 were the State of Mexico, Chiapas, and Guerrero. A quarter of the children and adolescents in the country who experienced a lack of access to nutritious and quality food resided in these three states.
