The ongoing summer vacation season in Acapulco has been marred by complaints from visitors—primarily arriving from Mexico City—concerning severe overcharging and alleged abusive pricing by local service providers. According to reports lodged with tourism authorities, the Consumer Protection Federal Agency (PROFECO), and the Center for Tourist Attention (CAPTA), vacationers have encountered exorbitant rates for food, beverages, and mandatory beach furniture rentals along the coastline.
Visitors expressed widespread frustration over inflated bills, citing the use of unauthorized double menus and hidden charges. Additionally, travelers reported steep fees ranging from 250 to 500 pesos simply to rent beach umbrellas, tables, and lounge chairs from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with vendors aggressively restricting free spaces on the sand for those who refuse to rent equipment. In response to the backlash, municipal and state regulatory teams have launched intensified inspection sweeps along popular beaches to crack down on unfair business practices and ensure transparency for all vacationers.
