Colima, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Sinaloa, Sonora, Nuevo León, Baja California, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Michoacán, Jalisco, Morelos, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Tabasco and Puebla are considered as high risk areas due to insecurity issues.
Mexico continues to be perceived internationally with increasing and generalized levels of insecurity. Countries such as Canada, the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Italy, among others, keep travel alerts to the country.
The reports from the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador on the alleged decrease in the incidence of various crimes have not been a factor to modify the bad image of our country.
In this sense, those countries launched “a travel alert” not to travel to 21 Mexican states.
The states indicated with high or medium risk areas are Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Sinaloa, Sonora, Nuevo León, Baja California, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, Morelos, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Guanajuato , San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Tabasco and Puebla. Some countries include alerts for tourist areas such as Cancun, Quintana Roo or Los Cabos, Baja California.
The United States government modified the travel alert to Mexico and changed it from the maximum level 4, due to the COVID-19 issue, to level 3. However, it maintains the recommendation not to travel to five states due to crime issues and reconsider your visit to 11 other states.
In the alerts, effective today, these countries warn their citizens of the risks posed by visiting areas of at least 20 Mexican entities.
“The critical security situation in some regions of Mexico continues unabated,” says the alert from the German government. “Drug-related violence in Mexico has increased in recent years,” adds that of Great Britain.
One of the common warnings is the high possibility of foreigners being caught in the crossfire in “turf wars” between gang members or drug traffickers, and of these with the forces of order.
“Armed clashes between security forces and drug trafficking groups can occur at any time without prior warning. You must be very careful outside the tourist areas, ”says the English government.
Countries ask their citizens to be careful not only with incidents related to organized crime or drug trafficking but also with other crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, or extortion. These countries’ governments warn their citizens of impunity in the country and even highlight the participation of police officers in criminal acts.
