The majority of the rest of the world has restricted travelers coming from the US because of the high rates of Covid-19 cases. If you decide to take a trip to Mexico this winter to escape the pandemic or the cold weather, you may be wondering if you can bring along your favorite CBD oil.
Unfortunately, CBD isn’t legal everywhere in the world. Travelers can even face jail time in some parts of the world if border patrol agents find CBD products. We advise you to know before you go when it comes to traveling with CBD.
Is CBD Legal in Mexico?
Yes. CBD is legal in Mexico as long as the product contains less than 0.1% THC. On June 19, 2017, President Enrique Pena Nieto signed legislation legalizing CBD products. Mexico was one of the first countries in the world to legalize CBD. Even the US waited until 2018 to pass the Farm Bill making all CBD products with 0.3% THC or less to be federally legal.
There is another major difference in the two countries’ approach to CBD. In Mexico, CBD is treated as a supplement. It can be added to health foods products and advertised as a dietary supplement. In the US this is not the case. Because the FDA considers CBD a drug, it doesn’t consider CBD a supplement. The FDA has recently cracked down on companies making claims suggesting CBD is taken as a dietary supplement.
Can I Travel to Mexico with CBD Oil?
Yes. CBD is legal in Mexico as long as it has under 1% THC. We suggest only taking CBD isolate products across the Southern border. Taking your full spectrum CBD cream will be risky, even if the levels of THC are under 1%.
Flying with CBD products is legal. However, it is a good idea to make sure the label says, ‘hemp-derived,’ this is what agents are looking for on both ends. If you are taking CBD on your vacation to Mexico, you should not have any trouble getting through security.
The great thing about CBD oil is that it usually comes in a 30ml bottle. This is perfect to take in your carry of because it is under the fluid ounce limit to board a plane. If flying on a plane stresses you out and your CBD will chill you out, why not take some before take-off!
