Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.- The New York Times, one of the most important and influential newspapers in the world, published its list of the 52 most attractive destinations to visit in 2022 and included Ixtapa Zihuatanejo in its 5th place, being the only Mexican destination that appears in the list.
The 2022 list published by The New York Times highlights places around the world where change is really happening to preserve ecosystems, protect endangered species, strengthen communities, and above all where travelers can be part of the solution and the change.
Ixtapa Zihuatanejo has been chosen for being a natural conservation destination that stands out for its environment of coexistence between its natural settings, its marine life, its attractive fishing village and its visitors.
In addition to promoting environmental projects where travelers can contribute, such as Whales of Guerrero, a non-profit organization for the study and conservation of humpback whales that reach the shores of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo every year; and the Ayotlcalli Tortuguero Camp, which offers the opportunity to join turtle nest monitoring patrols and the release of hatchlings.
The restaurant La Raíz de la Tierra, run by its owner Mr. Sánchez, has included plant-based dishes on its menu that favor the local economy; Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero from the guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, have been involved and promoted local vegan initiatives.
The Playa Viva ecological complex, 50 km south of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, has dedicated itself to sustainability and regenerative practices while helping to revive the adjoining town of Juluchuca by providing education and employment in conservation, tourism and agriculture. He recently joined a new regional project to protect the Juluchuca River watershed with ATV tours to explore a coffee and cocoa plantation.

For its second year in a row, The New York Times Travel created its annual list of iconic destinations with a special focus on places where profound change is taking place, where efforts are driving transformation and improving their part in the world.
The New York Times Travel confirms with its list “52 Places for a Changed World” that the travel industry can also be part of the solution, not only in terms of the environment, it is also essential for supporting exhausted economies and crucial to open the eyes of travelers to cultures and customs different from their own.
