Carriers block and burn 12 vehicles on the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway

Guerrero.- Transporters blocked the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo federal highway after the arrest of an alleged union leader, while an armed group set fire to 12 vehicles, including two Estrella de Oro line buses, in the area. 

According to police sources, the blockade began around 1:00 p.m. in the Jardín Palmas neighborhood, in front of an Elektra branch, where the carriers accused alleged abuses of authority by security corporations. 

The demonstration was carried out by drivers of urvans, taxis and motorcycle taxis, from the Jardín Palmas, Jardín Azteca, El Pedregoso and San Isidro routes. 

The carriers blocked the highway in the vicinity of the Pie de la Cuesta and San Isidro markets, for which the service was suspended and dozens of vehicles stranded, the residents had to walk through the demonstration to reach their destinations. 

The closure of the federal highway began after an operation was implemented in El Pedregoso and San Isidro, during which a house was searched and a man was apprehended, although no data was provided, it was reported that he is a transport leader and with the blockade their liberation was sought. 

Later, an armed group deployed in the area and set fire to 12 vehicles at different points, including two Estrella de Oro buses, trailers from the companies FEMSA and Grupo Modelo. 

The reports indicate that the burning of vehicles is related to the demand for the release of the presumed leader of the arrested transporter; After the action of the armed men, the Guerrero Security Secretariat implemented an operation to free the highway. 

Agents from the Guerrero Police, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of the Navy, the National Guard, the Guerrero Prosecutor’s Office and the Municipal Police participated in the operation, who “took control of the highway to the west of the port of Acapulco ,” according to a statement from the agency.
