FGE Guerrero helps tourists from Morelos on the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway

Armed individuals burned trucks and blocked the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo federal highway. 

Mexico City. The Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported last night that the Specialized Tourist Service Prosecutor’s Office provided assistance to visitors from the state of Morelos, who are in this port in the context of the 23rd edition of the Copa international Acapulco, which is played on soccer fields located between the towns of Pedregoso and San Isidro, next to the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo federal highway. 

The above, indicated the FGE, during the road closure that occurred in the western area of Acapulco, last Wednesday afternoon, during which a dozen light and heavy vehicles were set on fire by unknown men. 

Minors and adults belonging to this sports group from Morelos, who were traveling in a passenger bus, were forced to get off by armed men from the unit, to later set the car on fire. No injuries were reported. 

The state prosecutor’s office indicated that “in the coordinated action, elements of the FGE, the Mexican Army, the Mexican Navy and the National Guard supported during the transfer and protection of the facilities of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Tourist Attention.” 

In the place they were given legal advice, psychological accompaniment and medical attention. 

They also filed a complaint for the events that occurred on the afternoon of August 2, 2023. 

The prosecutor’s office itself provided the means for the group of visitors to return to their place of origin, said the instance. 

The Acapulco Soccer Cup has been held for two decades on municipal courts, mainly in the western zone, for a week in the summer. On this occasion, it brings together some 200 teams from different states and municipalities of Guerrero, in children’s and youth categories. The activities of the competition continue in apparent calm.
