This year the Mexican Pacific pairing has been awarded first place for the second time at the World Travel Awards™ 2023 by obtaining the distinction as Leading Destination in Mexico, recognition that positions it as a world leading beach destination.
Undoubtedly distinctions that make Ixtapa Zihuatanejo one of the preferred destinations not only in the Mexican market but also internationally, specifically in the United States and Canada, with whom it maintains direct air connectivity.
By 2023 the World Travel Awards ™ celebrates its 30th Anniversary, and celebrated it on the Island of Saint Lucia, founded in 1993 were established to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Today, the World Travel Awards™ brand is recognized worldwide as the industry’s leading seal of excellence.
Its annual program is recognized as the most prestigious and extensive in the global industry, each year the World Travel Awards™ cover the world with its Grand Tour, a series of regional gala ceremonies to recognize excellence within each continent culminating in a Grand Final at the end of the year.
Through an online voting process by country and at the regional level, the World Travel Awards™ include several categories where professionals from the tourism industry and the general public participate.
The categories cover each and every one of the sectors of the tourism industry such as: hotels, travel agencies, airports, airlines, cruise ships, ports, trains, tour operators, restaurants, to name a few, and countries are also awarded leaders in destinations such as: beaches, cultural, heritage, gastronomic, business, events, adventure and green destinations.
Pedro Castelán Reyna, Executive Director of the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Convention and Visitors Bureau, mentioned “this recognition is the result of years of work by the industry to position Ixtapa Zihuatanejo in the first places on the beach in Mexico and internationally. Through the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the State and Municipal Government and the Hotel Associations, we have managed to position our destination in the minds of tourists, proof of this is this distinction which we have obtained for the second year since in 2020 we were awarded the same. We are committed and we will continue advancing to give this beautiful destination the place it deserves, competing against the greats is not just anything, our sister destinations Cancun, Los Cabos, San Miguel de Allende, Oaxaca and Mexico City were nominated and fortunately we were the winners .”
In this particular year we are celebrating, with so much good news for the destination, the appointment of Zihuatanejo as a Magical Town, the recent announcement of flights from San Diego and Chicago with Alaska Airlines, currently the destination has regular routes from Tijuana and Mexico City, we have expanded national connectivity with new routes; El Bajío, Querétaro and León Guanajuato. The north of the country with routes from Monterrey and the Center with a route from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport.
Connectivity with the neighboring country is growing, in addition to regular routes from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Dallas, and seasonal flights: Minneapolis, Chicago, San Diego and Phoenix. From Canada you can fly with any of the non-stop seasonal flights from Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.
