Recently, several large companies, including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Sigma Alimentos, temporarily shut down their operations in Guerrero, Mexico, particularly in Acapulco.
This decision came after a series of violent incidents targeting their employees. On January 24, 2025, three employees from these companies were attacked: one was killed, another was seriously injured, and a third was executed. The attacks were believed to be carried out by sicarios (hitmen) members of the violent local cartels.
This type of violence paralyzes companies in Acapulco and other cities in the state of Guerrero.
PepsiCo, Gamesa, Coca-Cola, Grupo Modelo, Sigma Alimentos, and other companies suspended activities after several simultaneous attacks were carried out on Thursday, January 23.
Among the victims, a truck driver from Grupo Modelo was killed and a Sigma worker was seriously injured with a gunshot to the head.
The violence has left streets deserted of delivery workers in the port, while the state government remains silent.
In response to these incidents, the companies suspended their operations to ensure the safety of their employees.
What citizens are asking is: What is the governor of Guerrero doing about this critical situation?
The local government and federal authorities have intensified security measures and deployed additional police and military forces to protect the workers and restore normal business activities. Some companies resumed operations after these measures were implemented, but the situation remains tense, and the companies are closely monitoring the security conditions.
