This Friday, September 12, classes are suspended in Acapulco, the Costa Grande, and the Sierra de Guerrero regions due to Tropical Depression 13-E, which formed off the state’s coast.
In a message posted on social media, Governor Evelyn Salgado indicated that this measure is preventive and in response to the recommendation of the state Civil Protection Agency.
“I inform you that, as a preventive measure and in response to the recommendation of Guerrero Civil Protection Agency, this Friday, September 12, classes are suspended in public and private schools, both shifts, in the Acapulco, Costa Grande, and Sierra regions. This preventive measure aims to protect the safety of our children, youth, teachers, and educational personnel. I ask you to remain attentive to official information and take precautions,” she posted.
The Guerrero Civil Protection Secretariat reported the formation of Tropical Depression 13-E off the state’s coast.
The agency stated that at around 3 p.m., Tropical Depression 13-E was located approximately 95 kilometers south-southwest of Punta Maldonado, in the municipality of San Nicolás, on the border of Guerrero and Oaxaca.
The depression is located 195 kilometers southeast of Acapulco.
The Civil Protection Secretariat reported that the tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of 75 kilometers per hour, moving west-northwest at nine kilometers per hour.
The Civil Protection Secretariat reported that the depression will cause cloud formations and moisture carryover, generating heavy rains of 75 to 150 millimeters in Guerrero and Oaxaca. Flooding, landslides, and lightning will also occur.
The meteorological phenomenon will bring winds of 40 to 60 kilometers and waves of two meters high to the coast of Guerrero.
It is expected to evolve into a tropical storm in the next few hours.
