The screwworm infestation continues in several regions of Guerrero, with the highest incidence in municipalities of the Costa Grande, Costa Chica, Tierra Caliente, and Central regions.
Guerrero remains among the states with the highest incidence of screwworm infestation nationwide, registering a total of 105 cases, reported the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA).
According to the recent update of January 28, 2026, the infestation is concentrated primarily in municipalities of the Costa Grande, Costa Chica, Tierra Caliente, and Central regions. The municipalities with the highest number of cases are: Tecpan de Galeana with 11 cases and Acapulco de Juárez with 10. Ayutla de los Libres and Tlacoachistlahuaca each have 8 cases.
It should be noted that on Wednesday, January 28, the Acapulco Livestock Association, in a press conference, reported 500 cases of cattle infected with the screwworm in the port city, a figure that does not match the 18 official cases.
The president of the Acapulco Livestock Association, Francisco Ricart Rodríguez, stated that there is concern among the 700 members of the local livestock association regarding this plague affecting livestock, and they called on federal authorities to take action.
The report also indicated scattered cases in municipalities such as Igualapa, Juchitán, Chilpancingo, Cuajinicuilapa, Cuautepec, Arcelia, Coyuca de Catalán, Juan R. Escudero, La Unión, San Miguel Totolapan, Ometepec, Petatlán, and Zihuatanejo, demonstrating a widespread distribution of the parasite throughout the state.
So far, federal and state authorities are continuing inspections in the regions with the most cases of the screwworm infestation.
