Following the passage of Hurricanes Otis and John, Acapulco began a recovery process and achieved an average hotel occupancy rate of 64.8% for the summer vacation season in the three port areas: Dorada, Tradicional, and Diamante.

The destination achieved an economic impact of 5.6 billion pesos (approximately US$299 million), generated by the influx of more than 722,000 domestic and international tourists.

In general, Guerrero’s destinations reflected a recovery during the first half of the year, with a 46.74% increase in tourism compared to 2024.

Guerrero’s Secretary of Tourism, Simón Quiñones Orozco, reported that the first quarter of 2025 saw the arrival of 4.69 million domestic and international visitors. From January to July 2024, Guerrero received 3.2 million tourists, and during the same period in 2025, 4.69 million tourists arrived.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo continues to grow in hotel occupancy; it could reach 65% occupancy, a milestone never before seen in Guerrero.

“We can achieve this by the end of 2025; that’s why we’re projecting a historic year for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, in terms of hotel occupancy, tourist influx, economic growth, and air passenger arrivals.”

With the goal of strengthening investment in air connectivity, Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado and OMA Airport Group CEO Ricardo Dueñas signed a collaboration agreement to boost and promote connectivity between the Acapulco and Zihuatanejo airports, explore new routes, and modernize facilities, with an investment of more than one billion pesos (approximately US$50 million) over the next five years. At this meeting held in Acapulco, which was also attended by OMA’s Director of Aviation Development, Abelardo Muñoz, and the state’s Secretary of Tourism, Simón Quiñones, it was reported that the company expects to decisively promote development, with a view to expanding operations at both airports, reaching 2.3 million passengers annually.
